Repair of water tank

Last year’s new protective coating could not stop the rusting of the 80,000 litre water tank at Namwala Secondary School in Zambia, as the process is mainly from the inside out. As we did not know exactly how to save the tank, we provisionally repaired the rusty spots during the May holidays by welding plates onto the leaking areas. We then found that an epoxy coating would stop the corrosion process. During the August holidays, the tank was painted on the inside. The outside also received a new coat of paint. The tank could be put into operation in time for the start of school. Three valves that could not yet be replaced will be replaced at the end of the school year. We hope that the tank will be usable for a long time. A new tank would have cost around Fr. 200’000. Costs: Fr. 22’000.
