Kitchen Modernisation

In July 2007 the management of the school was taken over from Mr Frederick Mbangweta by Mr Amos Makasa. However, their list of priorities remained unchanged. At the top of the list was the acquisition of new electric cooking pots. At this point the kettles needed repair at the end of each trimester, which put an additional strain on the school’s budget. Although the school considered different offers for the cooking pots, some from Europe and some from Africa, they chose the best offer, which came from Johannesburg. With this initial purchase they were able to replace eight old pots, each with a 100 liter capacity, with four new pots each holding 225 liters. At the end of 2009 they bought four more 135 liter pots to replace the remaining old ones. The kitchen is now equipped with enough large and small pots to accommodate 1,500 students and teachers without a problem.

In spring 2013 the health authorities discovered several deficiencies in the kitchen (as they did in the ablution blocks). In August 2014 the school started with the upgrading of the building to improve the situation. The work was finished before the beginning of the new school year 2015. Total costs are approximately 22 000 dollars. During our visit in March 2015, we noticed that 3 cooking pots did not function properly and the remaining pots urgently needed a service. This was done in April 2015.
The costs were 2 500 dollars.
