Windows

During the summer 2004 Namwala Secondary School visit, the majority of the school buildings were found in a bad state.  Although there were only a few windows missing in the kitchen area the situation in the school buildings and dormitories was far worse.  Here almost all windows were broken.  Some of the damaged windows were temporarily fixed with various materials and objects just to keep them shut.  Thus the decision to restore the buildings step by step was an easy one.  With the impending arrival of the rainy season, which brings an increased risk of Malaria infection, the gradually restoration of the buildings was necessary in an effort to keep infections at a minimum.  Fortunately it was possible to get the financial means necessary to do the work.  In May of 2005 around four tons of pre-cut glass was purchased.  In an initial effort, students together with teachers repaired the 1,000 windows in the dormitories in the months that followed.  Starting in mid September they replaced 500 additional windows and the remaining restoration was completed by mid October.
